The ARCH509 Design Build Studio 2024 Fall class participated in Park(ing) Day in downtown Lawrence, KS! Organized by Multistudio and Hoke Ley Architects, Park(ing) Day is returning to downtown Lawrence this year. The event will take place on September 27th, the final Friday of the month, from 4-9 PM, with installations in select parallel parking spaces along the downtown corridor. This annual event is a collaboration between the City of Lawrence and local businesses, organizations, and community partners.
The project created by KU's Architecture and Design (ArcD) students focused on repurposing recycled light fixtures from Marvin Hall on the KU campus. The team designed and constructed a greenhouse using a dumpster donated by Hamm Recycling Companies. This unique space provided a place for people to relax and take a break in downtown Lawrence. In total, over 300 visitors came to enjoy our greenhouse in just one day!
