The ARCH509 Design Build Studio 2024 Fall class participated in Park(ing) Day in downtown Lawrence, KS! Organized by Multistudio and Hoke Ley Architects, Park(ing) Day is returning to downtown Lawrence this year. The event will take place on September 27th, the final Friday of the month, from 4-9 PM, with installations in select parallel parking spaces along the downtown corridor. This annual event is a collaboration between the City of Lawrence and local businesses, organizations, and community partners.
The project presented by KU's Architecture and Design (ArcD) students involved repurposing recycled light fixtures from Marvin Hall on the KU campus. The team designed and built an interactive wall using these fixtures, allowing the public to paint it. As the community added their touches, the wall transformed into a collaborative art piece, which was later displayed at the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design.
