This design ia aiming to give people a new view of the courtyard, that is, the design operates as stais so that people can sit on the central planter, which is the center and the highest point of the courtyard. The structure of this design is inspired by Japanese wooden structure, a 3D grid system made of wood members that are connected with interlocking joinery. The structure is made of 2X6 treated wood board, and the finish layer is made of composite plastic boards.  Design Build 2024 Spring is a collaboration between the School of Architecture and the School of Music at the University of Kansas. This project is to re-shape the topography of the courtyard in Murphy Hall, thereby providing outdoor seating spaces..
